Function
- Authorized as a Competent Authority (CA) for the application process, permits issuance, inputs to regional and international meetings, approval of import and export of scheduled/hazardous wastes, non-scheduled wastes, Used Electrical and Electronic Equipment (UEEE) and plastic wastes under the Basel Convention.
- As a Designated National Authority for Chemical Industry (DNA-C) under the Rotterdam Convention, processing of import and export applications for chemicals listed under Annex III of the Convention in accordance with the Prior Informed Consent procedure, Rotterdam Convention.
- Assisting the Ministry on providing input on hazardous chemicals related to the Stockholm Convention and the Minamata Convention on Mercury in an effort to ratify both conventions.
- Regulate licensing in managing scheduled waste data (inventory).
- Review the license conditions and written permission of scheduled waste.
- Manage consignment data information.
- Conduct environmental audits on generators and scheduled waste recovery facilities.
- Manage clinical waste and EHS chemicals.
- Manage e-swis and e-licensing system with BTM.
- Provide licensing contractor data in the DOE website.
- Manage contaminated soil inventory,conduct contaminated soil survey and soil remediation.
- Assist in the prevention and investigation of illegal disposal cases.
- Prepare and update SOPs for illegal landfill clean-up works.
- Manage environmental fund and related matters.
- Prepare, review and update scheduled waste laws and guidelines.
- Review and update scheduled waste categories and criteria.
- Evaluate the special management of scheduled waste.
- Evaluate recycling/reuse initiatives.
