The 19^th Meeting of the Malaysia-Singapore Joint Committee on the Environment (MSJCE) Working Group (WG) was held on 5-6 September 2023 in Singapore.  The meeting was co-chaired by Dato’ Wan Abdul Latiff bin Wan Jaffar, Director General, Department of Environment (DOE), Malaysia and Mr. Wong Kang Jet, Chief Executive Officer, National Environment Agency (NEA), Singapore.

The meeting involved the presence of Malaysia delegations namely DOE, Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change (NRECC) and 9 other agencies as well as Singapore delegations namely NEA, Singapore and 10 other agencies from Singapore.

The meeting was held to coordinate the common interest/ country position between both countries regarding environmental issues involving the Strait of Johor, pollution control actions and the environment quality such as motor vehicles, water quality in the waters of the Strait of Johor, management of chemicals and hazardous waste, and matters related to safety and cooperation in emergency management and pollution control of oil and chemical spills.

In addition, cooperation under the training institutes of both countries, namely EiMAS and Singapore Environment Institute (SEI), was also discussed and shared activities and programs under capacity building that have been carried out and programs/ activities that will be held in the future.

The outcome of the 19^th MSJCE WG Meeting will be taken to the next level, which is the 35^th MSJCE.
