THESIS 3 MINUTES ENVIRONMENT

AIM

  •  The 3 Minute Environment Thesis Competition (T3MAS) is organized by the Department of Environment (DOE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher
    Education (MOHE), Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and LESTARI Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia;
  • Held in conjunction with the National Environment Day (HASN) celebration

OBJECTIVE

  • Unearthing and honing oratory talents scientifically for students of Institutions of Higher Learning (IPT) through social media medium (online);
  • Provide a platform for Malaysians, especially IPT students to share ideas and views related to environmental issues based on the thesis conducted;
  • Encouraging a paradigm shift in cultivating a love for the environment involves all walks of life;
  • Invite and unearth the talents of IPT students to come forward and foster more sustainable self -confidence;
  • To add thoughtful ideas related to methods and control of environmental pollution that are in the process of research at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels by students in Public/ Private HEIs in Malaysia; and
  • Hone students’ talents to explain research findings in the context of effective research communication to non -technical listeners.

PROGRAM BACKGROUND

  • T3MAS with scholarly thesis is one of the branches of public speaking and is a communication process between a presenter to the listener which means to convey the message not only through speech but also through body language, appearance and behavior as well as ethics during delivery.
  • This program is a medium for IPT students to express their desires and share knowledge about ideas and innovations in environmental pollution control to the knowledge of the community. In addition, this is one of the syllabi for learning the environment directly to IPT students.
  • The organization of this competition targets the involvement of students/ students of IPT. This competition is the first to be held in 2020 for HEIs and participation targets all HEIs throughout Malaysia.

METHODS OF IMPLEMENTATION

  • The T3MAS competition is held only in Bahasa Melayu (BM) .
  • Competition execution:
    • Initial stage : Online through Facebook RAS.
    • Final stage : Students will compete live on the final stage

BRIEF INFORMATION OF THE 2020 THREE MINUTE ENVIRONMENTAL THESIS COMPETITION

The opening date for entries with posters by DOE social media and also assistance announced by the Department of Higher Education to all HEIs was started on September 29 to November 10, 2020. A total of 23 entries, namely 15 undergraduate participants and 8 postgraduate participants were received. After the evaluation was done taking into account the weight of 90% by the panel of evaluators and 10% of the number of likes, a total of 10 undergraduate participants and all 8 postgraduate participants qualified for the final stage.

The final competition was conducted in a hybrid manner with VIP and panel of judges present physically while participants and spectators attended online through the Zoom platform hosted by LESTARI as the host on 21 December 2020 in the Main Meeting Room of LESTARI, UKM.
