World Environment Day
World Environment Day (WED) which is celebrated on June 5 every year is an international platform for the organization of public awareness programs celebrated by more than 100 countries around the world. It was held by the United Nations as the beginning of the 1972 Stockholm Conference to increase awareness and community action towards environmental conservation. It also acts as a special day for the community to do something positive for the environment and further inspire others to have a higher positive impact overall.
The theme of WED 2024 is “Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience”. This year’s WED campaign looks at awareness of the balance between development and maintaining environmental sustainability. Various activities related to the environment from various parties are organized in conjunction with WED 2024, including rhythmic speaking competitions between schools, KUDAH, Enviro Hiking and other community activities.
