WORLD OZONE DAY 2024
NATIONAL-LEVEL CELEBRATION
The National-Level World Ozone Day 2024 celebration was held from October 9 to 11, 2024, at the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). This year’s theme was “Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action.” The launching ceremony took place on the final day of the program, October 11, 2024, and was officiated by YB Nik Nazmi bin Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability.
Various activities were organized throughout the program, including exhibitions, pocket talks, and a book launch in collaboration with the industry and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Malaysia. An estimated 1,000 visitors visited the exhibition booths during the event.
A book launch program featuring the title ‘Sustainable You’ was officiated by the Director General of the Department of Environment, Dato’ Wan Abdul Latiff bin Wan Jaffar, alongside a special guest, Dato’ Azizulhasni bin Awang, who serves as Daikin’s product ambassador. The book, a collaboration between the DOE and Daikin Malaysia, aims to raise awareness among all segments of society about climate change, carbon footprints, air pollution, and other environmental issues while promoting sustainable living practices. Dato’ Azizulhasni bin Awang also delivered a pocket talk presentation about the book ‘Sustainable You’.
The celebration concluded with a series of pocket talks, featuring:
- A message from Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
- A pocket talk titled”Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action” by Dr. Norhazni, Deputy Director General (Operations) of the DOE.
- A presentation on the HCFC Phase-Out Management Plan Stage III by a DOE representative.
- A discussion on alternative technologies by a lecturer from UNiKL.
